Alexander Ludwig was born on May 7, 1992, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, to Sharlene and Harald Horst Ludwig.

Like him, his mother once pursued a career in acting. His father, Harald, is a businessman and former co-chair of Lionsgate Entertainment. He was one of four children born to his parents and has three siblings named Sophia Ludwig, Nicholas Ludwig, and Natalie Ludwig.

Despite his mother’s early career choice as an actress, his parents were against the idea of him pursuing acting. They believed that child actors “can get sucked into a life that isn’t reality.”
