Is Kodak Black out of jail?

Apart from being mostly recognized as a rapper and songwriter who has released a number of hit singles so far, Kodak is also known in the media for having considerable trouble with the law, such as the possession of weapons, armed robbery and possession of cannabis, and has ended up in jail several times. Most recently, he was arrested due to his passing a gun and marijuana around a child while he was recording an Instagram live video. Other charges included the possession of a firearm, child neglect and the possession of marijuana, so he was sentenced to serve 364 days in jail. He was released in August of 2018, and so is free as of early 2019.

Life before Fame and Education

Concerning his early life, Kodak spent his childhood in Pompano Beach – his parents immigrated from Haiti, but he was raised alongside his older brother John Wicks by their single mother, Marcelene Octave, in the Golden Acres public housing society, as his father left the family. He became interested in music very early, and began rapping while he was attending elementary school, at that time going to a local trap house after classes to record music. Having a difficult childhood without a father, he became a troublemaker from an early age, so he was expelled from school in his fifth grade, which brought him more problems. He stated once that he had only two options to survive – selling drugs or rapping.

His career moved to the next level in October 2015, when the famous Canadian hip hop artist Drake shared via his official social media sites, the video of himself dancing to Kodak’s song “Skrt”, which increased enormously his popularity. So, it did not take long until he was offereda singing contract with Atlantic Records. In May of 2016, he announced that he would appear on the national tour “Parental Advisory Tour”, but didn’t show up. Why did he change his name?

Kodak’s real name is Dieuson Octave, and he would probably not have changed it if he hadn’t come in touch with a Hebrew minister while he was serving one of his sentences in jail. After giving him some lessons on Hebrew Scriptures, Kodak became a Hebrew Israelite, and as a result he chose to change his name to Bill K. Kapri in 2018.

Controversies

Kodak Black is also known for many controversies. In January of 2017, he posted a video showing him with several other men and a woman in a hotel room, who performed oral sex on them. The video immediately caused negative comments of the public, so he deleted that and apologized publicly by posting a message on his official Twitter account. Later that year, he posted on his Instagram account that he prefers light-skinned women more than black women, because they are ‘too gutter’.
